Feng Shui & Clutter - What's the Connection Part One
The primary objective in using Feng Shui is to create a home and work environment that is in alignment with the healing forces of nature, thus producing spaces that support and nurture those who occupy them. All living spaces are surrounded by unseen energies that can deeply influence its inhabitants. Chi (or energy) is a force that moves in, around and through us. Everything consists of this energy. The art of Feng Shui begins with recognizing how the energy flows in your surroundings. When these patterns of invisible energy are aligned, they produce environments that strengthen all the different circumstances an individual will encounter during their lifetime.
Recognizing and clearing away the energy blocks in your space is a great way to begin. One of the most common causes of these energy blocks is clutter. Energy or chi should gently circulate around your home like a meandering stream. It should not be blocked by obstacles or get stuck in a corner where it can stagnate. Too much clutter in a home stops the flow of healthy Chi.
Clutter clearing is one of the most powerful, transformative aspects of Feng Shui. In fact in most cases Feng Shui cures and enhancements are only minimally effective until the clutter is dealt with. In my definition any item which does not contribute to your life, no matter how expensive or useful it might be, is clutter. Consider the following as clutter:
-
Items you no longer use or love
-
Things that are disorganized and untidy
-
Too many objects for your space
-
Any item that is unfinished or waiting to be fixed
Objects that are loved, used and appreciated have a strong, vibrant, joyous energy around them. Alternatively anything neglected, forgotten, unwanted, unloved, or unused will cause the energy in your home to slow and stagnate.
So you ask -- how does my stuff translate into what goes on with my everyday life?
Fine strands of energy connect you with all your possessions. When your home is filled with things that you love or use constantly it becomes an incredible source of support and nourishment for you. Clutter on the other hand, drags your energy level down.
As you eliminate anything that has no real meaning or significance to you, you will literally feel lighter in body, mind, and spirit. Anything that is unfinished in the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual realms clutters your psyche. Our dwellings do not only affect us, they also reflect us. Things that are not dealt with in your home reflect issues not dealt with in your life. Repairs that need doing, piles that need sorting, phone calls that you need to make, incomplete filing, relationships that need to end and all the other forms of loose ends in your life are a constant drain on your energy. They will continually hinder your ability to move forward with your life if you do not deal with them. You will be amazed at the way your vitality levels soar as you eliminate your clutter, and complete all your unfinished business.
