Feng Shui & Clutter Clearing
A Spiritual Perspective

The main objective in using Feng Shui principles is to create an environment that supports and nurtures you. Clutter clearing is one of the most powerful, transformative aspects of Feng Shui. In fact in most cases Feng shui cures and enhancements are only minimally effective until the clutter is dealt with.

Clutter blocks the free movement of Chi (energy) causing areas of stagnation. Think of a river that is flowing and suddenly you come to a pocket of water off to the side and away from the main flow of the river. The movement of water bypasses this area and debris starts to gradually build up. Eventually you have an area of water that is stagnant and clogged.

This is the effect that clutter has on you. When your environment is blocked, you are blocked. Clutter can lead to confusion, disorganization, procrastination, disharmony, tiredness and lethargy. It has an influence on your finances, can cause depression, weight problems and other health issues as well as keeping you tied to the past.

When we purge physical clutter, mental clutter goes with it and life becomes smoother and less frantic. As you eliminate anything that has no real meaning or significance to you, you will literally feel lighter in body, mind and spirit. Anything that is unfinished in the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual realms clutters your psyche. Things that are not dealt with in your home reflect issues not dealt with in your life. Repairs that need doing, piles that need sorting, phone calls that you need to make, incomplete filing, relationships that need to end and all the other forms of loose ends in your life are a constant drain on your energy. You will be amazed at the way your vitality levels soar as you eliminate your clutter and complete all your unfinished business.

Go through your home and with each possession ask yourself “Does it lift my energy when I think about it or look at it?” Does it make you feel more alive and peaceful or confused and overwhelmed? Keep those things that make you feel peaceful and alive, eliminate the rest.

People hold on to their clutter because they are afraid to let it go—afraid of the emotions they may experience in the process of sorting through the stuff, afraid they will make a mistake and later regret getting rid of something, afraid they will leave themselves vulnerable, exposed or at risk in some way, afraid to let go of their attachments.

Part of healing spiritually involves getting rid of the clutter in your life. Clutter clearing can bring up a lot of “stuff” to be faced and dealt with. Affirm to yourself as you sort through your things, “it is safe to let go.” Clearing clutter is about letting go and trusting the process of life to bring you what you need when you need it. Anything you are keeping “just in case,” you are keeping through fear and a lack of trust.
